On The Sideline: Future All-American Basketball Camp

July 01, 2019

Former All-Time Assistant leader at Drake University Jeff Hill believes firmly in providing children the necessary skills to be successful on the court, and in life. When kids attend his basketball camp they are truly in for a treat! To start off, every athlete attends camp for free due to amazing community sponsors like our friends Westar Energy. Every camper will also receive a camp t-shirt, their own backpack full of school supplies, camp photo, daily lunch and memories playing with former college and NBA all-stars! The former NBA players teach ball handling, passing techniques and more. Other intangibles the young athletes will be equipped with include hearing from community members. Including a local fire chief, police chief, and Mayor. All sharing the importance of life outside of basketball.

June 27, 2018

Former Wichita State legend Xavier McDaniel had that realization when he was growing up in Columbia, South Carolina in the late 70's. His mother found him enough money to participate in a basketball camp, but he knew every kid wasn't so lucky.

A Letter about the Camp from a respected community Leader

July 15, 2017

On Saturday, I attended the closing ceremonies of the Jeff Hill Basketball Camp Program at the John Grubb YMCA.  Approximately 200-250 African American kids attended the 3 day camp.  School Board member Langford spoke. In closing comments, Jeff Hill told the young attendees and their relatives how important it is to cooperate with law enforcement.  He said there is little doubt that people within the community know some of the people who are committing these horrible crimes.  He added that if we don’t cooperate the next victim could be one of the kids in his camp or one of their friends.  This is a reminder that we must all continue to do our parts in reminding our fellow citizens how important it is to assist law enforcement in solving crimes.

Shocker legends invite kids to local basketball camp

July 14, 2017

Xavier McDaniel, Aubrey Sherrod and Cheese Johnson are joining Jeff Hill's Future All-American Basketball Camp and inviting 400 local kids to Next Level Hoops Academy in Bel Aire, KS for the four-day experience. The camp was created to give low income youth an opportunity to experience an athletic program which teaches the fundamentals of basketball. Hill says those skills can be used on and off the court, as the camp focuses on education while using community leaders to speak to the campers daily.

Former Drake basketball star distributes turkeys & Christmas gifts

December 21, 2016

A former Drake University basketball player turned community activist made sure 100 lower-income families will have something to eat this holiday season.

Jeff Hill is known for his "Future All-American Basketball Camp," but on Wednesday his attention turned from the hardwood to the kitchen. With a group of volunteers, 100 turkeys were distributed at the Grubb YMCA, 1611 11th St. in Des Moines, and ten local families received $250 in Christmas gifts.
